Welcome to the Sunday Night Check-In! I hope your week ahead will be filled with God’s greatest gifts! Welcome to six new subscribers! Always feel free to say howdy in the comments. The mornings haven’t been cool the past few days. You walk out early and it’s already sweltering and humid - but it’s just beginning! Congratulations to all the High School and College Graduates! A great time of life to be enjoyed!
POLL
Last week we recognized Mother’s Day and also several other days that fell on the same date. I’m with the 88% of you who have never heard of those other days. I think they’re just made up, but maybe that’s how all special days get their start! This week’s poll relates to the upcoming Summer! Do you have big plans?
FORSYTHE
At Forsythe this morning we continued our series on the Seven Ones by talking about One Hope. The notes and audio are available HERE. Next Sunday, Lord willing, we will study the phrase “one Lord”. There was a wedding shower for Matthew and Bridgette that our ladies outdid themselves putting together. On Wednesdays Sol Graves continues his series through Daniel. We also have a seafood boil coming up in a few weeks. This month we are collecting for the NorthEast Louisiana Food Bank. Check out our Amazon Wish List HERE if you’d like to participate. If you’re local, come see what we’re about.
READING
I didn’t finish any books this week, I’m pushing my way through several and enjoying them. I did buy a new book this week by Michael C. Sprouse, Sr. Mike has become one of those Substack writers that I have enjoyed. He was a tennis pro at a young age. His new book is THE RISING: A MEMOIR AT 50. I’m looking forward to spending some time with it! You should check out his newsletter:
In our Bible Reading group we will finish 1 Samuel, spend a day in Philippians, then head to 2 Samuel during the course of this week. My men’s devotional on the Bible app will begin a new set of readings Tuesday. Send me a friend request on the Bible App and let me know if you’d like to read along with us. This week are finishing the plan called PRAYING GRACE FOR MEN.
LISTENING
This week I listened to the song Rise Again featuring Ivan Parker.
PHOTOGRAPHY
I enjoyed a visit to Black Bayou last Tuesday afternoon for a bit.

The flowers in my back yard are beautiful!

PHOTOGRAPHY STACKS
There are many Substack newsletters devoted to sharing nature and wildlife photographs. This is not a top ten, nor is it a complete list … just some great ones I’ve bookmarked. Share your favorite photography stacks in the comments!
THAT WEEK
If you’ve read this far, thank you. It is THAT WEEK for us. The death of our son, John Robert Dobbs, happened on May 21, 2008. Wednesday we will visit his grave site and refresh the flowers there. At Lehrton Cemetery we will also visit other family members as well. I wrote a post about our experience that terrible day, but I’m not sure I will publish it. I think it was just more cathartic for me than palatable for readers. And, after seventeen years, there’s nothing new to write. I’m grateful for many prayers and encouragements over the years for me and for my family. I am hearing many people say that the book, Through Your Tears, has been helpful for those experiencing grief. To me, that’s one good thing that came out of a really terrible thing.
I pray that the week ahead is one rich with encounters that bless you and others. The night owl has done his work. Take care, friends. Work hard, rest well, and stay connected. The world needs you. I need you.
Thanks for sharing John.
Thinking of you and your family this week, John!
