Greetings Friends! This is my Sunday Night Check-in. I welcome the seven new subscribers this week! I am glad you are here and feel free to comment and share your thoughts. This past week I had the opportunity to visit the Tensas River National Wildlife Reserve and a fairly brief but enjoyable quick visit to Black Bayou. I have some photos to share with you in this post.
This week’s poll relate to two of the most popular singing shows on television.
April is ending and it will be May - the month of Mother’s Day and graduations. 2024 is on some kind of super fuel. I don’t ever remember a year going by this fast! At Forsythe Church today we finished a mini-series through Acts, the first eight chapters. Next week Daniel Kirkendall will get us started on a mini-series through the last four chapters of 1 Corinthians. This coming Wednesday Dr. Sol Graves will begin a series on the book of Revelation. A few Wednesdays from now, Doug White will reprise his class on Heaven, which was very popular. If you’d like some fellowship and study time on Sunday or Wednesday, I think Forsythe is your place!
Thanks to those who have let me know you are enjoying JESUS LIKES YOU. I have some copies in my office if you are local and would like to buy one. One thing that has caught me by surprise is that some are buying multiple copies to give to friends and family! I’m so glad it is well-received and meaningful to a good number of people.
Friday morning I taught a class on Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi. Twice. To seventh graders. My friend Terry Davis teaches at Ouachita Christian School and has invited some area ministers in to give overviews of books of the Old Testament as the class reads through them. I was impressed with the middle school devotional and then the two classes (and even the fire drill!). It was an enjoyable morning. After I left, I drove up to nearby Black Bayou. I’ll share those pictures another time.
As I related earlier, I journeyed to Tensas River NWR to hunt bears. Ida Swain Morgan is in the Tensas River NWR Photography group on Facebook and has recently been able to photograph bears a couple of times. I did look very diligently but did not see any of the black bears that have grown in population in North Louisiana in recent years. But I did enjoy the visit anyway and share some of those photos with you.
Tensas River NWR really is a beautiful place with a wonderful drive that travels through swamps, open fields, woodlands, and farmland. It’s a pretty good distance from here, but I still enjoy the visit. A few more, but, the egret and turtles picture is from Poverty Point Lake.
Reading.
This week I finished A Trick of the Light and A Beautiful Mystery. Now on to book 9, How the Light Gets In. Yes, I’m hooked on Louise Penny’s Chief Inspector Gamache series. I have some other books I’m getting closer to finishing but will list those after I’m finished. In our Bible reading program, we finished Judges and have Romans this week.
This past week I wrote a piece called WATCH OUT, IT SPREADS about a statement that Jesus made. It garnered three unsubscriptions. Must have been powerful! However, I do think Jesus issued a warning for a reason.
On The Holy Lens this week we will be praying through Psalms 75-81. Join us!
Some other Stacks to Check Out
The Library is a way to keep up with some new indie authors and books.
Anne encourages us to have fun at Chirp and Moo!
Stella takes a Coastal Retreat to Mendocino and lets us tag along with some wonderful photography.
My friend Les Ferguson started a new ‘Stack, so help a bro out and subscribe HERE!
This week Maggy and I will be traveling in Arkansas so I expect to be able to share some photographs from The Natural State with you. I hope you have an excellent week. If you read this far, thank you very much. Your likes, shares, and comments are always welcome. Take care, my friend. Work hard, rest well, and stay connected. The world needs you.
I always look forward to reading about your week. Loved the pictures as always and need to find this place. My husband grew up in South Africa and we both love nature and spotting animals. I think we would like this place.
You have passed me in the Inspector Gamash series. I’m just a little ways into A Beautiful Mystery. This is the one book I had read before back in 2019 but I am enjoying it again now that I have listened from the beginning.
I had my big Spring Recital this past Friday evening and things came off without too many mishaps and several fabulous performances. It was a good night. Now the challenge is to keep the momentum going with new material and projects that we can all get excited about.
Keep doing your thing! It matters to a lot of folks out there. Have a good week!
John if Dr. Sol Graves records his series on Revelations, please ask him to send copy to his father-in-law and mother-in-law.
Keep up the good work and enjoy your week. God bless you and keep you safe.
