Near the end of November, I took a drive along Moon Lake Road in Monroe, Louisiana. It was a beautiful cool Autumn afternoon and I drove exceptionally slowly with my windows down and didn’t regret it for a moment.
I’m always on the lookout for wildlife. From my location near the boatramp I observed an Egret, Heron, and Kingfisher. They were a pretty good distance away. My Canon SX70hs had difficulty getting really clear with them, but I enjoyed looking at them when I got home.
After spending some time at the boat ramp area, I slowly drove down Moon Lake Road. The sometimes gravel road winds its way alongside the Ouachita River, at times between canals, at other times on the edge of meadows where I hoped to see deer. I kept watching for an owl, but never saw one. I did, however, see some turtles relaxing on a log.
If you’re like me, you start longing for the signs of Autumn as October begins. In North Louisiana, signs of Autumn are beautifully evident in late November.
When Moon Lake Road comes to the levee it leads back to the main road (which is still a country lane). I turned right onto Horseshoe Lake Road and continued to be impressed by God’s handiwork. There’s more traffic here, so I tried not to go so slow. I noticed deer stands along the fields. Two deer caught my attention. Again, they were at too great a distance to capture a good image. I’m actually surprised I saw them at all. Maybe a bad image is better than none at all. Notice the nice rack on that buck!
And I thought this was an interesting photograph… a doe with a flock of birds flying by.
When I get to showing you the pictures that didn’t come out so well, it’s time to end this. But first, I do need to confess that I did drive out to Black Bayou. It was getting late, but I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to drive through.
Thanks for reading along and I hope that you enjoyed the photographs. I do not claim to be a professional. I don’t have the equipment for that. I do, however, enjoy taking pictures and sharing them. It helps if you like, share, and subscribe.

You’re making me miss northern Louisiana. But I do live in the mountains here--that’s hard to compete with. Having lived coast to coast everywhere has its breathtaking areas.
Beautiful pictures! As I grow older I feel guilty because I desire more and more nature and the peace it brings to me, over cities, crowds, and noise which I needed when I was younger to cover pain. I've shared how I sat at the city pond and fed small pieces of bread to fish and turtles, as a blue Herron and a kingfisher came to investigate. A great opportunity to move within a foot of me to get their feed and full-on sunfish. I enjoyed it so much.
And when hummingbirds come and if I wear a brightly colored shirt , as in flowers, they have come within a couple of inches to investigate my eyes and face. Feeling the breeze off those wings.
I get such a thrill over such moments.
So glad you are getting many opportunities to photograph nature. <3
