Hello everyone! It’s time for the Sunday Night Check-In. Welcome, especially new subscribers. I’m glad you’re here and invite you to say howdy in the comments. What’s happening in North Louisiana is HEAT. It’s so hot that the workers down at Popeye’s are jumping in the fry vat to cool off! What other “It’s so hot…” jokes can you put in the comments?
I’ve been enjoying the Whatnot app and, honestly, have bought some things I didn’t need just for the fun of it. I am going to have to rein that in. Whatnot is kinda like Ebay on steroids. I also bought some things to sell on Marketplace. I won’t get rich, but it’s a fun hobby (unless I end up with a bunch of stuff nobody wants!). If you wanted to give it a try, use this link, and we’ll both get credits to spend!
Instagram has, for the most part, been something I looked at here and there. I’ve been using it a bit more lately. I look for humor (of course - there’s plenty) but also, there are so many great devotional videos that have been a blessing. When I first got Insta, I only subscribed to family. I didn’t realize it would become the main social media for a lot of people. Like all social media, it’s a mixed bag. Follow me HERE if you are interested. Forsythe Church
At Forsythe Church of Christ this morning I started a series on the book of Colossians. Notes for today’s message can be found HERE. Or you can purchase a copy of THE HEAVENWARD TRAIL: A DEVOTIONAL COMPANION TO COLOSSIANS on Amazon. We have two adult classes that are sermon-based discussions, and the church has provided both classes with copies of the book. Wednesday is our “Third Wednesday Meal” together. Next week, we will rejoin our study of 1 Thessalonians taught by Gary Davis. This month, we are collecting peanut butter and canned meat meals (ravioli, etc.) for the Northeast Louisiana Food Bank. Reading
This week I finished The Bones at Point No Point by D.D. Black. This is the first of 14 books featuring fictional P.I. Thomas Austin. I enjoyed it a lot. The crime featured in this book is gruesome, but not overly exploited. In our Bible reading group this week, we will finish 1 Chronicles and then read Hosea.
Also, I was an early reader for Gary Roe’s new book called Walking With God Through Grief: Devotions and Affirmations for Grieving Hearts. It was just released this past week. Gary is a Christian counselor in Texas who has several books on grief available. This one has 90 devotions. I think it would be a great gift for someone suffering through a loss. Gary is gentle, faithful, and helpful.
Listening
With the death of Bonnie Tyler this past week, I found this medley of her hits with Ben Zucker. There’s a German language introduction, but the songs are in English. This was from 2017.
Watching
Last week, I mentioned that The Agency had a new season uploaded. I watched the first episode, and I was not very enchanted. The intense profanity and confusing plotline were a turnoff for me. I did spend almost an hour cruising around the different streaming services and came up empty-handed. I did watch the first episode of Downton Abbey - at least I knew I would enjoy it!
