I hope your new year is off to a great start! If not, we'll you’ve got plenty of time to get it turned around! A few days ago a friend referenced a road out at Black Bayou - one with which I was unfamiliar! So I inquired, and as it turns out you can drive past the worker’s area and there’s another road. I didn’t even know we were allowed to drive past there! There’s a nice gravel road that extends a good way to a turnaround. There are ATV trails along the way as well. I parked at the end and walked down a trail a bit. It was pretty chilly, maybe 45 degrees, and very enjoyable.
The setting sun put a nice light on everything, but also told me not to wander too far from the car! It was very quiet, and I heard very few birds. One, a yellow-rumped warbler greeted me as well as a red-bellied woodpecker (but he wasn’t very cooperative for the picture!
I saw another trail, but it was starting to get darker and colder, so I will leave it for another day. On my way out I stopped at the pier and took a walk while the sun set. There were lots of coots and an egret all gathering their last food of the day.
It’s always a nice visit to Black Bayou, and especially today to discover a new area to add to my journeys there. The changing landscape and beautiful wildlife create a unique visit each time. I’m so grateful for those who created the reserve and work to keep it such a beautiful place to go.
If you like my pictures, you might like a new newsletter I have created called The Holy Lens. It is a daily newsletter that will feature a photo, a passage of Scripture and a prayer. In a few moments each day I hope to encourage readers and give a moment of peaceful prayer. The first one went out at 8am on January 1st. This is a one-year project! If that sounds interesting to you, check it out!
Thank you for reading about my visit to Black Bayou and sharing some images with you. When I left today there were unexplored trails, and that’s exciting to me when I think about visiting again.
I hope you have a wonderful year!
Awesome! Phenomenal shots!
I love that last photo - it beckons.
