A friend told me about a giant eagle’s nest in Henderson Lake. So Sunday afternoon after lunch with friends, I drove up there. Unfortunately, I could not find access to the lake except at the boat ramp, which was flooded. I felt like I was being mocked by this turkey vulture who was seated above me. No matter how smug he felt, he was not a Bald Eagle!
So that was a dead end for me. On the way home I took a slow drive down Moon Lake Road - which I did yesterday - but it’s still serene and beautiful. Mostly I saw Red Eared Sliders - turtles. According to what I could find on the internet (so it must be true) this is the most popular pet turtle in the world and is the most invasive as well. That explains why I see so many of them.
Aside from turtles, I saw a few birds. They move so quickly and I’m moving slowly trying to focus my camera, that I mostly miss them. But a couple of them were patient with me.
Since I was near a boat ramp and a picnic/park area, the fishermen were returning to shore. Some people gathered with children to play and eat. The sun was not far from going down. So I wrapped it up and headed home. This week, February in Louisiana, the high temps will be in the upper 70s to lower 80s. This should have the reptiles stirred, so I’ll have to be careful where I step if I head out to take more pictures this week.
Thanks for enjoying my pictures with me. I enjoy the peace and serenity in places like Moon Lake Road / Rec Area and Black Bayou NWR. I usually begin talking to God, but in a few minutes, I run out of things to say and just settle in to being there with Him in the wonder of His creation. I don’t think He minds the quiet company.
