“God only knows” is a common refrain that reflects our uncertainty when life is difficult. We cannot always understand why things happen the way they do. After all our contemplation, we sometimes get to a place where we just acknowledge that only God knows. That’s not a hopeless perspective. God does know.
God knows you need endurance and encouragement.
Romans 15:5 affirms, “May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus.” We need endurance to make it through tough times and encouragement to keep us from giving up. A spirit of unity reminds us that we are not alone in our journey.
God Knows You Need Hope.
In Romans 15:13, Paul prays, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Don’t read that too quickly. God is a God of hope, and he supplies us with joy, peace, and the Holy Spirit. On days when the Enemy steals your peace, you can count on God to fill you with hope.
God Knows You Need Peace.
Paul’s prayers for the Romans continues in verse 33 “The God of peace be with you all…” The Hebrew writer also used this description of God. In Hebrews 13:20, we read, “May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep.” We can have peace in our soul because God is all powerful! He raised up Jesus from the dead…we have an eternal covenant! When we trust in God, we place our trust in a failsafe source!
God Knows You Need Love.
To the Corinthians, Paul appealed to them to listen to him and then he wrote, “And the God of love and peace will be with you” (2 Corinthians 13:11). God is a “God of love,” and this love is eternal. Jeremiah spoke on God’s behalf when he wrote, “…I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness” (Jeremiah 31:3). You are loved.
God Knows You Need Grace.
1 Peter 5:10 calls God, “the God of all grace.” No doubt we need His grace because of our many mistakes, and even our poor decisions.
When life gets hard, and we are left with the feeling that “God only knows,” let that send you to your Bible and to your prayers because it’s true—God knows.
This song by King & Country featuring Dolly Parton reminds us to be kind to others, because God only knows what they ‘ve been through.
Beautiful reminder that God knows us and sees us and loves us more than we can ever imagine. So grateful for his love and grace for me and this challenges me to be as loving and gracious as He is, to reach out in His strength to encourage those who are struggling, for only God knows the depth of those struggles. Good post!
