It’s time for the Sunday Night Check-In! Thanks for spending a few minutes with me. We have some new subscribers and I’m thankful for your presence. Always feel free to say howdy in the comments. This is not exactly an edgy and punchy post, but the elements are present!
I mentioned recently about reading Joshua Powell’s The Edge and how much I enjoyed it. He had a giveaway of some paperbacks and I received one of them! Powell has two books out and both of them are very interesting and carry Christian themes. I encourage you to check them out. OK, that’s the edgy part.
I heard a guy on YouTube today use the word “punchy”. He was describing how to get the best out of chatGPT and said that when he used that word in his request, it make the answers more lively. So maybe since I used the word “punchy” in my title, this will be a lively post.
I’ve been involved in moving my office at the church building to another room. By the end of the month construction will begin on our fellowship hall extension. At that time the offices (adjacent to the fellowship hall) will be renovated for the first time in at least 17 years (it would pre-date me, whenever it was!). The more I move, it seems like the more I have!
I enjoyed my visit to Levy Church of Christ last Wednesday night. The hospitality of that church is excellent. Seeing old friends was a blessing. Danny Dodd is the energetic preacher for Levy. Another old friend, Cecil May, is also on staff there. I don’t know why we didn’t get a picture together. This coming Wednesday I am speaking in the summer series at the Jackson Street Church of Christ here in Monroe. Ken Stegall is their excellent preacher. I have one more appointment to speak in a summer series, but that is in August in McComb, Mississippi.
ANNIVERSARIES
There are a couple of anniversaries in my world this week. On July the 17th our church will have the 59th anniversary of ministry in Monroe. I am so blessed to be a part of this loving church family! July 18th will be my wedding anniversary! It is the 38th observance of that day that changed my life for the better!
FORSYTHE
Today at Forsythe Church of Christ we continued our series on Holy Habits with a lesson about PERSEVERANCE (notes and audio here). Our regular song leader was out of town, so we were blessed with Brandon Allen’s talents this morning. We are collecting items to bless Pilots for Patients this month. Our Amazon Wish List is HERE.
LISTENING
We should all remember to be grateful.
WATCHING
This week we watched the series The Day of the Jackal. Talk about edgy and punchy! I love the spy theme. This one of those where you end up rooting for the bad guy, but it was a gripping story. It reminded me a little of one of my favorite spy movies, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. That one’s not available on any of the streaming services at the moment, but hopefully it will be sometime soon. We are watching ALONE and that’s about it for me. I can’t seem to find anything very interesting. If you are watching something great, let me know in the comments!
READING
I am close to finishing two or three really good books and I look forward to sharing those with you! In our Bible reading program this week we are reading Hosea and moving into 1 Corinthians after that.

Well, the night owl has done his work. Thank you for spending a few minutes with me as I talk about what’s going on in my world. I am grateful. Take care, friends. Work hard, rest well, and stay connected. The world needs you.
I just realized that I missed the Sunday Night check-in because I was traveling. So better late than never and I am popping in to tell you I started “Looking Up: a birders guide to hope through grief “ and I am loving it. I think I got that recommendation from you so thanks.
Appreciate the share John 😊 Blessings to you!
