Tuesday afternoon, October 3rd, I ventured out to Black Bayou for some quiet time and photography. When I drove over the bridge heading into the reserve I saw an alligator in the water. Excited to have an opportunity so soon, I pulled over and walked onto the bridge. It’s not really a great pedestrian bridge with a low railing and not much visibility coming around the corner, I probably shouldn’t have done that. The gator saw me quickly and went under the water, but some kind of orange bee or wasp sighted me and stung me on the hand. I wonder if the gator and the bee had an agreement worked out ahead of time.
I think the insect kingdom sensed the oncoming cold front and was especially active. Horseflies were bouncing off of my vehicle as I drove. I wasn’t sure I’d even get out! I did park for a bit and listen for birds and Burg Ransom drove by. I love his pictures on Facebook and was so happy to meet him. I was grateful that it was in the late afternoon because the sunset light was so beautiful.
There are still not many egrets hanging around Black Bayou. I am looking forward to their return. But this one egret was pretty far away, still, I was able to capture a few photos. Some Fall colors are showing in the background.
I enjoyed meeting a few people along the way. One fellow pointed out this small gator who was sunning out on a log. He has some kind of algae across his head. I wondered if he wasn’t feeling well, but several have assured me he was just enjoying some sun.
I intentionally waited for the sun to go down and was not disappointed! I hope you enjoy these as much as I enjoy sharing them! God’s beauty is spectacular!
Thanks for joining me on my wanderings through Black Bayou.
Excellent as always!
Incredible pictures!! Thank you!
