Update: Well, Well, Well
Mr. Musk has decided at this time that posts on his social media platform that contain a Substack link cannot be replied to nor retweeted. As a longtime Twitter user (@johndobbs) I’ve found the new owner’s direction to be really unhappy.
The Verge reports on Twitter issue.
Still, as long as it’s a free service we must play by the rules. Certainly, Twitter users are not obligated to stay.
Mashable: Twitter appears to be going to war with Substack
My note here is that this only enhances the value of the Substack community. I’m glad to use this service and I like so many things about it. My traffic from Twitter is about 6% of readers. Anyone interested in further writings should just make sure they are subscribed!
I know that owning a social media empire is a money-making venture. So, good luck to the mega-millionaires who have nothing better to do than to tweak their wares. I expect a lot of moaning and groaning about this from many people. But I just wanted to note that if you have a hard time posting a tweet on Substack or responding to a Substack post on Twitter, they’ve apparently broken up and we’ll just have to live with it.
Twitter is blocking Substack links – here’s how to get around it
Oh, and Substack is starting up what appears to be a Twitter-like platform. Looking forward to trying that out. Perhaps that is the motive behind the breakup.
Is Substack Notes the new Twitter?
By the way, I was trying to share a picture from the YouVersion Bible app to Instagram, and it wouldn’t work. So I think Instagram has broken up with everyone else except Facebook (both owned by Meta) also.
Ah well… everyone wants to be the best - first - brightest - only destination. I just hope Twitter doesn’t block me posting my Wordle results.
My latest posts on my two Substacks:
*sigh* I had Substack before Twitter, and their friendly interface made Twitter appealing to me for the past 8 months or so. I have liked Twitter because, while it’s apparently a minimal percentage of my Substack stats, I still get as much if not more dialogue with readers on Twitter. This breakup would be easier if more readers used Substack for discussion!
Glad I got to meet ya before Twitter exiles is all. Happy Easter.
