This afternoon I drove down Moon Lake Road. I wasn’t very successful in photographing any wildlife - I think they can see me coming! I did see a few shy wood ducks, but they were doing their best to waddle away from me. So I decided to go over to Black Bayou, but on the way a blue heron landed right on the road, so I followed him to his local crayfish source.
When I got to Black Bayou, I followed my usual pattern of visit except I did not visit the boardwalk on the lake. It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon and I figured there would be a lot of people there. I opted to go to the photo blind instead.
I like the photo blind, except for a few things. It is pretty ‘buzzy’ with insects and wasps in the summertime. And the water outside the blind is overgrown with wild grass that can interfere with the view. But it is quiet, and the scenery is beautiful. I saw a few wood ducks and an egret, pretty far away though. There was a downy woodpecker just outside the blind temporarily.
And I was surprised to find this little critter out in the daytime (although the evening was coming on fast). Opossums are our friends, and I was happy to make his acquaintance (though from a distance!).
I spent a good bit of time in the photo blind. It was quiet and mostly solitude was available there. I did meet a young couple. She said she was from Oklahoma. They didn’t know about the boardwalk over the lake, so I let them know about that. Hope she got some good pictures and they enjoyed their visit to our beautiful natural resource. I keep looking for owls, though, and I have been unsuccessful thus far!
Don’t let this picture scare you, but I decided to take a selfie in the sinking sunlight. I don’t know which one I liked the best, but just to show that there are dangerous and scary creatures in the Bayou…
Thanks for letting me share my afternoon photographs with you! Hope you have a spectacular weekend.
These are so good!
